REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “protected by the name” To protect means to keep safe from harm or injury. A name is a word or set of words by which a person or thing is known, addressed, or referred to. Protected by the name means there is power in the name of Jesus Christ which is able to protect those who believe in His name. Jesus means the Saviour and Christ means the anointed or chosen one, Jesus Christ or Christ Jesus, therefore, means the Anointed Saviour of the world. It is for this reason, Jesus before His betrayal, suffering, death, resurrection and ascension to heaven, prayed for His disciples and all believers, “I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled. (John 17:11-12)
Dear friend, the name of Jesus Christ is able to protect us physically and spiritually. His name is able to protect us now and always because He is with us through the power of the Holy Spirit. He has promised us that “…surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) There are examples of people who called on the name of Jesus and were healed. When the blind beggar shouted “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!… Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God. (Luke 18:38, 42-43). Even when our suffering or pain makes it difficult for us to audibly call or shout His name, Jesus still protects us so long we yearn for Him in faith and in Spirit. The woman who had bled for twelve years without anyone able to heal her did not shout the name of Jesus but through faith and a determined spirit, “She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped… Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” Luke 8:44,48). Paul again assures us when he wrote that “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile —the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:9-13). Dear friend in the Lord, for us to be saved and protected by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we must have a relationship with Him. All Jesus requires from us is to repent, accept Him as Lord and Saviour and totally put our faith in Him. Let us be reminded that the ultimate protection we receive from the name of Jesus is protection from temptation, sin, judgement and eternal damnation, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:16-17). May the lent season draw us closer to Jesus and may we remain protected now and forevermore through the name of Jesus.
PRAYER
Thank you Jesus for saving us. In Your Name, we experience the grace, love, and protection of God, the Father. In Your Name, we experience protection through the power of the Holy Spirit. We continue to surrender all our afflictions and frustrations into Your hands because in You “we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28) Amen.
