ALL THE LITTLE CHILDREN (MARK 10:13-16)

REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is “All the Little Children”. Jesus demonstrated His love for children and used them as an illustration for accepting the gift of salvation.

Dear friend in the Lord, to inherit or receive the Kingdom of God we must possess the innocent trust, obedience and humility of a child. A child will hardly doubt his or her parent or guardian. He or she trusts his or her parents guardians and teachers and obeys whatever he or she is told. This is how children learn from the people they look up to in their lives. It is for this reason Jesus said, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.  Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Mark 10:14-15).  In other words, Jesus is teaching us to possess the innocent trust, obedience and humility of a child when receiving the Gospel and putting our faith in Him as our Lord and Saviour. Just children trust their parents knowing that they have their best interest at heart and will do the best for them, Jesus is asking us to trust Him and accept the message of salvation that would lead into the Kingdom of God. Many adults approach the Gospel with their doubts, It is for this reason Jesus said ““You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” (Matthew 8:26). We are called upon to trust Jesus as children when He assures us, ““Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” (John 14:1-4)

My dear friend, time may not be at your disposal, if you hear the Word of God do not harden your heart but like an obedient child, trust and obey the Word of repentance and Salvation. “And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also, he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty, I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.  The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son (or daughter). But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:5-8). Beloved in the Lord, let us be like a child in receiving the Kingdom of God so that we will not experience the second death in Hell.

In summary, we have learn that to inherit or receive the Kingdom of God we must possess the innocent trust, obedience and humility of a child. May His will be done in our lives. Shalom.
