God will remember and reward believers who remain faithful to the end.

REFLECTIONS

The theme for our reflection is “God will remember your works.” The author of Hebrews identifies two types of people in the Church or followers of Christ. The first group are the apostates. An apostate is a person who after gaining knowledge and believing in the basic and important doctrines or teachings of the Christian faith, later rejects the faith to embrace some other doctrines, ideology or philosophy which stand in contradiction to the Christian faith. Apostates are Christians who believed and have been beneficiaries of God’s grace and spiritual blessing “and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.” (Hebrews 6:6-8). In other words,, a person who merely goes to Church, participate in the Holy Communion but continues sinning and has not truly accepted Jesus as his or her Lord and Saviour, and does not obey the teachings of Bible is an apostate and is like a tree that bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.

The second group of people are the faithful believers of our Lord and Master Jesus Christ who are being encouraged to hold on their faith “for God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:10-12). In other words, your works as a faithful believer will surely be remembered and rewarded by God because He is just. My dear friend we are greatly admonished that “whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” (James 4:17)

As we journey together in the Advent season, let us continue to work faithfully for the Lord. Wherever God has placed you to serve as a believer, be an imitator of Jesus Christ and let God count you worthy of a good steward deserving of the reward the master shall give him or her when He comes. As we await the second coming of Christ let us remain focused on our salvation and live for the Lord so that “whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” (Romans 14:8). Shalom.

PRAYER

Merciful Lord, we rededicate our lives to your service, may we remain faithful to the end so that our works shall be remembered when you come to reward your faithful stewards. Amen.
