REFLECTION
Crushed but not defeated is the theme for our reflection. Paul demonstrated to the Corinthian Christians the restorative power of God at work in the believer who endures suffering. Ordinarily, a person who is crushed may either end up permanently or partially disabled or die out of the crush, but Paul bore testimony that “… We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)
Dear friend in the Lord, we receive power from God through our salvation in Jesus Christ to withstand any attack or suffering that may come our way as a result of our service to God. Unless it is our time to depart from this earth into eternity, God will continue to deliver us from suffering and death so that we will be able to fulfil our divine assignment on earth. Our Lord Jesus was crushed to death, but for the power at work in Him, death could not defeat Him; Satan was defeated. He resurrected on the third day! Beloved in the Lord, your life is in God’s hands; therefore, you may be crushed by demons and ungodly or evil people for speaking the truth, preaching the Gospel and holding on to your faith in Jesus, but be greatly encouraged that your victory and vindication are in the hands of God. Just as we are crushed like Jesus, similarly, we shall have life and restoration through His resurrection power. We shall not be defeated by the perilous circumstances we may find ourselves in on account of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul’s testimony should give you hope that you will be crushed but will not be defeated because “…the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us…always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.” (2 Corinthians 4:7,10). The good news is that our Redeemer lives! Shalom.
PRAYER
Almighty God, we are grateful to You that You are the source of our power, victory and restoration when we are crushed. Dear Lord, continually strengthen our faith to remain strong and hopeful in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen
