THE LORD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU (EXODUS 14:10-29)

REFLECTION

“The Lord will fight for you” is the theme for our reflection. “The Lord will fight for you” means the Lord will deliver us from our struggles and the hands of our enemies. Exodus 14 describes God orchestrating a “trap” for Pharaoh by leading the Israelites to camp by the Red Sea, which Pharaoh’s army then pursued. When the Israelites were trapped, God commanded Moses to part the sea with a strong wind, allowing the Israelites to walk through on dry land to safety. The pursuing Egyptian army then followed, but God caused them to panic and, at Moses’ command, the waters returned, drowning Pharaoh’s army and delivering the Israelites from their pursuers.  We shall reflect on the fact that the Lord will fight for you because He is a promise and covenant-keeping God. Again, He will fight for you because of His glory and Sovereignty as the Lord of lords.

Beloved in the Lord, when we allow the promise and covenant keeper to lead us, He will fight for us. Moses answered the people, “14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still…Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the LORD swept them into the sea. 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived. 29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.” (Exodus 14:14, 26-29) Dear friend, irrespective of our fears, weaknesses, faithlessness, frustrations and hopelessness, God remains faithful to His promise and covenant; therefore, He will fight and deliver us from our challenges and the orchestrations of our enemies. Again, irrespective of our physical and spiritual enemies, God remains faithful to His promise and covenant in granting us victory in our battles. David testified to the Lord’s faithfulness in fighting our battles for us when he said, “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. (Psalms 91:7-8)

Again, God continues to fight for us to reveal His glory in our lives. He is the Lord of lords and King of Kings. We are told “The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived. 29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day, the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.” (Exodus 14:28-31) We are greatly encouraged to have faith and remain still in times of trouble, for the Lord is the source of our strength and victory. Jesus represents the new and everlasting covenant God has made with humanity; therefore, we shall continue to experience the grace, glory and mighty hand of God in our lives through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Jesus, our Priest, is always interceding on our behalf, hence our victory is assured. He will fight for us when we are overwhelmed by our enemies like the vicious wind. Jesus is always in our boat to save us just. We are told, A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down, and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:37-40) Faith in Jesus is all we need when we pray to Him. He is always with us to grant us victory and peace in our battles.

In summary, we have discovered that the Lord will fight for us because He is a promise and covenant-keeping God. Again, He will fight for us because of His glory and Sovereignty as the Lord of lords. Shalom

PRAYER

Lord, we are forever grateful for the battles You have won for us. May the Holy Spirit strengthen our faith and allow us to continue trusting You even as You remain faithful to Your promise and covenant in our lives. Amen.
