REFLECTION
The City of gold” is the theme for our reflection. The City of gold is the future dwelling place for believers who will endure the tribulation and temptations of this world. It is comforting and encouraging to know that our lives do not end with the destruction of this present world. In Revelation 21:15-21, John describes the New Jerusalem, a city measured with a golden rod, indicating its divine perfection and order. The city is a perfect cube, 1,400 miles long, wide, and high, with a wall of jasper and a foundation of twelve precious jewels. Its gates are single pearls, and the street is pure gold. The passage highlights the city’s immense splendor and flawless design as God’s perfect, eternal home for his people. In other words, the city of God or the Holy city will bring eternal peace and joy to those who are suffering on account of their faith in Jesus Christ in this present world.
It is important to note that, the City of gold is only for the faithful who have served God in truth and in spirit, “Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” (Revelation 21:27). Dear friend in the Lord, the Holy City or City of God represents the second life, which is the eternal life while hell represents the second death which is the eternal death where there will be suffering, “In that place, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth…” (Luke 13:28). We are in the era of grace. Let us not take this grace for granted but repent and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and live to honour God for the rest of our lives so that we shall have a place in the City of gold. Jesus is still inviting us in the city of gold, when He said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’” (Revelation 3:20-22). Shalom
PRAYER
Merciful Lord, deliver us from the bondage of sin and may the Holy Spirit strengthen us to endure the tribulations and temptations of this world so that we shall become the heirs of the City of gold.
