REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “Transferable Skills.” A skill is the ability to do something well. Transferable skills are the application of one’s skills in one field to accomplish or execute a task in another field. We shall reflect on the fact that God prepares and equips us with transferable skills to fulfil a higher calling.
Dear friend, God uses our present situation and experiences to prepare and equip us with transferable skills to fulfil a higher calling. God prepared and equipped David with the transferable skills of shepherding, which David used to fulfil his higher calling as King and leader of Israel. “He chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds; from following the nursing ewes he brought him to shepherd Jacob his people, Israel his inheritance. With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand.”(Psalm 78:70-72) In other words, God equipped David with the skills of leadership or shepherding while he was with his father’s sheep so that David could become a successful as leader, king, and shepherd of Israel. Dear friend in Christ, it is important to note that whatever service you are rendering to the Lord today in church, family, or society, may be God’s way of preparing and equipping you with transferable skills for higher and bigger calling or opportunity, therefore “do not despise small beginnings” Zachariah 4:10). Again, to acquire transferable skill and become successful a higher calling or office, we must see ourselves as bond-servants of God. Paul admonished us that as “Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:22-24). Let us serve God and those our leaders in humility so that we will also excel in our calling.
In summary, we have discovered that God prepares and equips us with transferable skills to fulfil a higher calling. Shalom.
PRAYER
May the Holy Spirit empower us to serve diligently in our current position even as the Lord prepares and equips us for a higher calling. Amen.
