REFLECTION
The theme for reflection is “Goodnews” Goodnews is a piece of information from someone or about something positive, encouraging, uplifting or desirable. We shall reflect on the fact that knowing that God is with us through thick and thin and this is the Good News sustains our faith and hope in all situations.
Beloved in the Lord, at the time when Israel was in captivity and exile in Babylon, hope was lost and many were living in despair. At a time when their nation was in ruins and bad news had become a constant reality, God once again demonstrated His unfailing love and faithfulness to them by bringing them the good news of His salvation. The Lord assured them through Isaiah, “You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” 10 See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. 11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.” (Isaiah 40:9-11). Dear friend in the Lord, I may not know or understand your struggles, frustrations, pain or agony but the good news is that we are not alone on the journey of life. Jesus proved this fact when He said to the disciples, “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20). Again the Psalmist reminds us of the good news that we are not alone when testified and proclaimed that “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalms 23:4-6). Like Job, let us learn to demonstrate our faith by saying in our challenging moment “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. 26 And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; 27 I myself will see him with my own eyes —I, and not another. (Job 19:25-27) Instead of complaining and crying in despair, I greatly encourage you to be consistent in prayer like Hannah and praise the name of the Living God irrespective of the situation. Like Hannah, Abram and Joseph your day of joy and laughter is coming when you shall testify that indeed, “… those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
In summary, we have been emboldened that God is with us through thick and thin and this is the good news that sustains our faith and hope in all situations.
PRAYER (HYMN: ABIDE WITH ME)
Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me. Amen.
