REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection today is “You are a chosen vessel of Christ.” A ‘vessel’ is a person who has a particular quality or who is used for a specific purpose. We can therefore rephrase the theme to read “Chosen by Christ to serve God’s purpose. We shall reflect on the fact that you become victorious and an overcomer through faith because you are a chosen vessel of Christ.

Beloved in the Lord, you become victorious and an overcomer through faith because you are a chosen vessel of Christ. Our portion of our Scripture reading, 1 John 5:1-6, reminds us that as chosen vessels of Christ, if we love God and have faith in Jesus Christ, we shall overcome this world. “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. “(1 John 5:1-5). In other words, a faithful chosen vessel of Christ is empowered through the Holy Spirit to be victorious over the challenges and temptations of this world through faith in Christ. Paul gives us great encouragement when he says, “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:12-13). My dear Christian brothers and sisters, you are not alone as chosen vessels of Christ in your struggles. I encourage you to carry your cross and follow Jesus Christ, for He assures us that “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30). In a world filled with conspiracy, hatred and persecution of the chosen vessels of Christ, Paul who is a beneficiary of God’s grace again assures us that “my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Philippians 4:19-20). We have not been chosen to fail but to be victorious witnesses to the power of God.

In summary, we have learnt that we have become victorious and overcomers of this world by virtue of our status as chosen vessels of Christ. Shalom

PRAYER

May the Holy Spirit continue to sustain and empower us as chosen vessels of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
