REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “Comfort my people.” To comfort means to give strength and hope to others who are in trouble or emotional pain. We shall reflect on the fact that our greatest comfort is knowing that God is supreme and owns the universe, which he sustains and controls.
Beloved in the Lord, in our troubles, pains, challenges or anxiety, the greatest comfort is that God is our sustainer because He is supreme and owns the universe. The Psalmist greatly reminds us that “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. (Psalms 24:1-3). In other words, why should we be overwhelmed with anxiety and troubles if our God is the creator and sustainer of the universe? We are emboldened by the Psalmist to trust in the supremacy or Lordship of the God we worship. The God who gave Abraham and Sarah a child in their old age. The God who sustained and transformed Joseph from a slave to a royal. The God who made barren Hannah fruitful. The God who used David the boy to deliver Israel from Goliath the giant. Ultimately, the God who can deliver us through the priceless and matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The greatest comfort Jesus brought to humanity is when He said, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (Luke 4:18-19). We, those who have become the beneficiaries of God’s comfort through Jesus, must go out into the world and also be a source of comfort to those who are overwhelmed with the challenges, pains and frustrations of the world.
In summary, we have discovered that our greatest comfort is in the God who is the creator and sustainer of the universe. Our faith and relationship with Jesus will enable us to experience the comfort that God gives through the presence of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER
May the Holy Spirit continue to be our comforter through our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ. Amen.
