REFLECION
The theme for our reflection is “how to receive the Kingdom of God” The Kingdom of God is the spiritual realm in which God reigns as King. Believers belong to the Kingdom of God because even before its final appearance through the second coming of Jesus Christ because they have faith in Jesus and submit to the will of God. In our reflection we shall discuss the following facts:
- Everything created by God including human beings will come to an end
- Jesus came to establish the Kingdom of God so that we can inherit it
- To inherit the Kingdom of God we must be like children.
Firstly, beloved in the Lord, the Kingdom of God transcends human beings and everything created by God. Before human beings and other living creatures were created, the Kingdom of God preexisted. We observe from Genesis 2: 18-24 that God’s original plan is for humanity to enjoy creation, live together and enjoy the union of marriage and procreate through marriage. It is important to note that as we enjoy all that God has given to human beings through creation, in other words, the gift of sustenance and family, we must not forget eternity which is the Kingdom of God. Ecclesiastes 2:10-11 admonishes us that our toil for the things of this world is a total vanity for “I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11). We must live a Kingdom-conscious life, for “… our citizenship is in heaven, and from it, we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” (Philippians 3:20-21). Apostle Paul knew that this world is not our final destination therefore in his last days when He was sure that he was going to be killed for the sake of the Gospel, he wrote to young Timothy to strengthen Him that “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing. (2 Timothy 4:6-8).
Beloved in the Lord, do you forget about the Kingdom of God and rather yearn and amass for yourself, the things of this world as if they will never fade away? Are you preparing to receive the Kingdom of God through your faith in Jesus, daily prayers and Bible studies? We are assured in Revelations that this world will surely come to an end and all the expensive and gigantic temples or chapel buildings will be destroyed because in the Kingdom of God there are no chapels, for John wrote that “… I saw no temple in the city (the Kingdom of God), for its temple, is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honour of the nations. But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Revelation 21:22-27). How are prepared are you to receive the Kingdom of God?
Secondly, God loves us therefore He sent His son Jesus Christ to establish the Kingdom of God so that whoever believes him will become heir to the Kingdom of God. My dear friend, we cannot receive the Kingdom of God without accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Jesus assures us that “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. (John 14:1-3). It is for this purpose the writer of Hebrews encourages us that “… Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. Therefore, let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured. For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come (the kingdom of God).” (Hebrews 13:12-14). My dear friend, I need you to search yourself and respond to the voice of salvation from Jesus Christ so that you can receive access to the Kingdom of God. 1 Peter 1: 3-5 reveals to us that “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
Thirdly, to inherit or receive the Kingdom of God we must adopt the obedience and humility of a child. A child will not doubt his parent, He or she trusts his or her parents and obeys them. It is for this reason Jesus said that “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” (Mark 10:14-15). My dear friend, time may not be on your side, if you hear the Word of God do not harden your heart but like an obedient child, trust and obey the Word of repentance and Salvation. “And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also, he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty, I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son (or daughter). But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:5-8). Beloved in the Lord, be like a child and receive the Kingdom of God so that you will not experience the second death in Hell.
In conclusion, this world is not our home nor is it our final destination, God created everything to ensure that human beings will live a comfortable life on earth and glorify Him, however, it is important to note all created things on this earth including the lives of human beings shall come to end. It is for this purpose Jesus; the son of God came to establish the Kingdom of God so that through Him we will receive the gift of Salvation and inherit the Kingdom of God. We must therefore be ready to receive the Kingdom of God like children by trusting and obeying Jesus Christ even as we await His second coming which will bring the full revelation or appearance of the Kingdom of God. May His grace continue to be with us. Amen.
