God’s power shall be experienced on the day of the Lord by Israel and other nations.

REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is strong in power. Power is the authority or capacity to act in a particular way to produce an effect. The Prophet Zechariah ends his prophetic writing with a stern warning to Israel and her enemies that the day of the Lord shall bring salvation to the chosen faithful remnants but it be a dreadful day for the disobedient in Israelites and the enemies of Israel.

On the day of the Lord, Israel and the world shall truly witness that the Lord is strong in power because He says “For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken and the houses plundered and the women raped. Half of the city shall go into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations as when he fights on a day of battle…. the LORD will be king over all the earth. On that day the LORD will be one and his name one.” (Zechariah 14:2-3 & 9)

In our time and age, God has revealed Himself to us through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who appeared first to save us from our sins and guarantee us eternal life through faith. We wait for the second and final appearance of Jesus Christ who carries God’s power of judgement. In Mattew 28:18 Jesus makes us aware that “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” In other words, all power has been given to Jesus therefore all believers must be prepared for the Day of the Lord. Similarly, the world must also be prepared to experience Jesus’ power on the Day of the Lord. On that day, the power and glory of the Lord shall be witnessed by all and sundry at His final appearance.

To be a beneficiary or to be among the chosen ones who shall not be condemned by the power of God, we must “…be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Luke 12:36-40). In other words, the Lord’s power shall bring salvation to His faithful servants but the same power shall bring condemnation to wicked and disobedient servants therefore let us be watchful and remain faithful to Him till the last day of our breath on earth. Shalom.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, empower us to remain faithful and obedient servants so that we will experience the Lord’s salvation, glory and mercy through the manifestation of His power on the Day of the Lord. Amen
