Build on the rock and not the sand.
REFLECTION
Careful building is the theme for our reflection. To be careful means making sure or being cautious to avoiding potential danger, mishap, or harm. A building is a structure with a roof and walls, such as a house. A building built without care becomes a potential danger to the inhabitants or occupiers when the forces of nature hit it.
Jesus employs the imagery of a building and its foundation in Matthew 7:24-27 to describe a believer’s relationship with him. Jesus is the foundation on which we must erect our spiritual buildings. To carefully build your spiritual life which is God’s dwelling place in you, Jesus admonishes us to do two important things. These are to hear and obey His Words. Remember that it is not enough to know the Word of God by reading or hearing it but that which is equally important is obeying the Word of God. Church goers occasionally read and usually hear the Word being preached on Sundays but do not obey it. However, faithful christians and believers have a habit of hearing and dedicating their lives to the obedience of God’s Word in every aspect of their lives. This character or trait of hearing and obeying the Word of God is what Jesus Christ describes as “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25) My dear friend are you a careful builder or a careless buider? In other words are you a faithful Christian or a mere church goer?
Advent season gives an opportunity to move from being careless and unwise builders on the sand to careful and wise builders on the rock. It is not too late to make Christ your savior and the rock of your salvation even as we await His second coming. My dear friend, if you are alive today and reading this reflection then count yourself blessed becuase grace has found you. The Lord has given you another chance or opportunity to repent, trust and obey Him. Beloved in the Lord, if you have hitherto failed to carefully build your life on Jesus, our rock and foundation then do so today before the floods of temptations and winds of destruction hit and wash your walls or life away. (Matthew 7:26-27). Shalom.
PRAYER
“Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.” Amen (Psalm 71:3)
