REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is signs of the times. Signs of the times is something judged to indicate the nature of a particular period. For instances dry and dusty winds which causes a hazy atmosphere indicate the time or season of harmattan. Signs of the times help us to prepare and guard against events that may happen in the present or future. God uses occurances in nature to teach us about qualities consistency, certainty and predictability of human conduct and faithfulness. “Does the snow of Lebanon leave the crags of Sirion? Do the mountain waters run dry, the cold flowing streams?” (Jeremiah 18:14-15) In other words, nature’s signs of the times is consistent, certain and predictable.

The key lesson of our reflection is that nature is able to show signs of consistency and predictability in its signs of the times than human beings. God compares the character of inconsistency and unpredictabliliy in the behaviour of the Israelites to signs of the times displayes by nature. For this reason, God says “But my people have forgotten me; they make offerings to false gods; they made them stumble in their ways, in the ancient roads, and to walk into side roads, not the highway, (Jeremiah 18:15).  The signs of the times displayed by nature teaches us that in our relationship with God, we must be consistent in our character, certain in our conduct and predictable in our faithfulness and obedient to the will of God. It means, our actions and intentions as children of God must be as consistent and predictable as the seasons of nature. Our faith and trustworthiness should not be questionable or doubted by God. Our character and intentions must prove to God that we are obedient and faithful to Him now and always. Shalom.

PRAYER

Dear God, empower us to remain faithful , consistent and predictable in doing your will and living a life of rightousness and obedience to Your Word. Amen.
