When our our son turned one year, we decided to take him to the beach at Sakumonor to celebrate his special day. It was going to be his first time at the beach. It was Saturday afternoon and there were a lot of people at the beach as well. Emmanuel was very excited and all he wanted to do is to play in the sand and toddle towards the sea. Eventually, I left him, my wife and Afariwaa and walked along the beach towards one end of the beach which saw some guys playing football.
“Sammy Sammy Sammy!” I heard my name from afar as if my attention was being drawn to an emergency. I got alarmed and turned towards the direction my name was been called from, I saw a gentle man running towards me as if he had wanted to tell me his last words on earth. “Who could this guy be?” I asked myself. “Zoro!” I shouted out of excitement. I had just seen a senior secondary school mate of mine. We hugged each other with surprise and joy at the same time.
“It has been ages Sammy. Charley I miss you rough” he gladly said. “Charley I dey ooo, long time, how far now?” I replied with a smile. “My guy I hear say you bi pastor now, you this stubborn guy, you come turn pastor, hahaha, but charle you do well” it was obvious Zoro never changed since school time.
I replied “Yes ooo abi as we dey grow we for dey change, by God’s grace I come give my life to Jesus wey now I dey do pastoral work” He jokingly knelt down and started urging me, “Osofo pray for me, abi you say me I no change, Osofo me I need deliverance with four buckets of anointing oil,” “hahahaha” I laughed hard and pulled him up.
He wanted to know which church I was pastoring and immediately I told him, Zoro as crazy as he was dropped a bombshell which kept my mouth wide opened for minutes. Coincidentally Zoro knew Sister Lesley, the wife of Pastor Derick and passed a derogatory comment about her which got me curious. It was revealing to note that Zoro and Pastor Derick’s wife, sister Lesley had attended the same Polytechnic at Kumasi and they knew each other very well. According to Zoro her nickname back at school was P.V which meant ‘Promiscuous Virgin’.
“Charle, as I hear say that girl marry pastor self I shock, P.V marry wey the person no be any ordinary body too, pastor she go marry. We all we shock, serious!” Well, I brushed that part of the conversation off by making him understand that, that was then and moreover it was only a nickname and nothing else. I began to tell Zoro the wonderful personality sister Lesley had been since I got to know her.
Zoro came close to me, pulled out his phone browsed it for some few seconds. “Sammy come see something” lo and behold was a video of two people, a young man and a young lady passionately making love and to my dismay the lady moaning and yearning for more was Pastor Derick’s wife. I became puzzled and asked him when that took place. He told me it happened during their last year at the polytechnic and that it was the guy who secretly videoed the affair. He further went on to explain that both were dating for 3 years and during the course of the dating Pastor Derick’s wife was flirting with other guys and that really hurt the boyfriend. Consequently, the boyfriend too became frustrated and eventually performed woefully academically and that led him to graduate with a lower class. What broke the Carmel’s back was that some few days to graduation, Sister Lesley told her boyfriend that she wanted to break up with him.
Knowing the sinister plan he had orchestrated, he pleaded with Sister Lesley to make love to him for the last time before they finally broke up. Apparently, she concurred and during the act she was secretly videoed. The interesting aspect of the leaked sex tape was that anyone who watched the video for the first time could clearly see Sister Lesley and recognize her without any doubt, meanwhile the face of the guy had been blurred. Zoro and I exchanged phone numbers and he willingly shared the video with me and we parted ways.
As I walked towards my family, there were a lot of questions popping up in my mind and paramount among them is, was Pastor Derick aware of this video and the kind of lady she married? I got to our tent, pretended all was well and we finally returned home.
Before I went to bed that night I had mixed feelings. What was I to do with that video? Though it took place some couple of years back, I believe it still had valid consequence for Pastor’s Derick’s marriage and ministry. I was confident that nothing of this nature could ever be discovered about me. One thing I forgot to ask Zoro, was how far this video had travelled and whether Lesley herself was aware of it. Interestingly, I kept watching the video at my leisure time and appreciating the physical features of Pastor Derick’s wife and already having mental imageries of what it will be like if I was in bed with her myself. Of course that will be mission impossible so I quickly discarded the thought.
Pastor Derick invited me to his office to have a chat with me concerning our ministry. From the way he spoke, I could deduce that he was getting convinced that I was involved in the decision to ignore the renovation of his house. He passionately appealed to me to watch the kind of people I associate myself with and should always reflect on what people tell me before acting. I got alarmed and asked him in an angry tone “Pastor Derick, where from this accusation?” “Pastor Sammy it is not an accusation, I am only giving you friendly advice.”
I got furious and exclaimed,
“Please, enough is enough I won’t have you accusing me of something I know nothing about!”
“Pastor Sam, I have not accused you of anything but if you are not happy about this conversation then it is ok, I am sorry” he said gently.
With my guilty conscience I became defensive and created the impression that he was treating me unfairly. Before I left the office he was quiet for some time and gazed at me in disbelieve whiles he shook his head in disappointment at my demeanor. I got up and told him I had some very important assignment to attend to and I left his office.
The next day, I scheduled a meeting with Mr. Ofori in his house and narrated what had transpired between my senior pastor and I. His response was encouraging.
“I admire your boldness, we need a man like you to teach Pastor Derick some sense; he is so full of himself and thinks he knows everything. Because of him my first wife left me, I wanted to marry another woman from the village because I was enstooled a chief and had that privilege. My wife was not happy about it and wanted to leave me and instead of Pastor Derick advising her to stay with me, he encouraged her to go on with her decision”
“Really, Pastor Derick destroyed your marriage? That was very bad of him” I replied in solidarity and added “The Bible acknowledges women to be submissive to their husbands, after all you feed and clothe her, what is wrong if you want to have a second wife as part of your chieftaincy privileges?” “Pastor Sam, though I am older than you, your wisdom and level of appreciating issues are incomparable, I feel you understand us when we talk to you, as for Pastor Derick, I doubt if he also attended the same Bible school you attended. He is very difficult and always claims to be pursuing the truth in Scripture and that all human endeavors should be weighed by the teachings of Christ. Is Jesus Christ an African? Are we not Africans and should we throw away our culture because of Christianity. Pastor Derick humiliated me by disqualifying me and I was never made an elder because I had wanted to have two wives and also became a chief in my home town.”
With a sinister motive, I took out my phone and invited Mr Ofori to draw closer and that I had something important to show him. I showed him the sex video of Pastor Derick’s wife. He was not sure of what he was watching and who was involved, so he wore his classes which qualified to be called googles. He drew the phone closer to his face and exclaimed, “huh, is this not our Asafoomaame, what an abomination!”
“Yes, she is the one, I nodded my head.”
Mr Ofori was short of words and could not imagine what he had just watch. “So Pastor Derick married a prostitute and was behaving as if the wife was an angel”
“Mr Ofori let us keep this a secret and watch them live their hypocritical lives, who knows what Pastor Derick is also hiding, at the right time our God will expose them. They don’t deserve to lead this noble church” “Sure, I will” he promised.
I had the opportunity to preach, on the topic “Purity” in during one of our Sunday worship services, Pastor Derick and his wife were also present. During the sermon I spent time on sexual immorality and with more emphasis on ladies. Eventually I began targeting sis Lesley. She became more uncomfortable when I said,
“There are some ladies who have slept with different men and are proud about it, they even do it shamelessly whiles being recorded on camera, at the right time God will deal with such people and if you are amongst us and you are like that, Hell fire will consume you.”
“Amen oooo” replied vigorously by some of the congregants. After church service I realized she looked disturbed but tried to hide it with a fake smile. Mr Ofori came to me to congratulate me for such a powerful message. I no longer related with Pastor Derick and the wife the way I used to. Our greeting were rather formal and I seized visiting them at home and only met Pastor Derick officially at his office if the need be.
My wife realized that my relationship with the senior pastor had gone sour and wanted to know what was happening. Whiles I was about finishing my dinner one evening she curiously asked me what was happening between Pastor Derick and I. I answered “nothing!” and she replied,
“Sam, I am not convinced, of late you don’t visit them and at church your disposition towards him and the wife is cold. Well, whatever the case is just remember that you his junior in ministry and second minister and as such you must humble yourself and be tolerant”
I got furious and yelled at her,
“Woman!, if you have nothing sensible to tell me please retire to the bedroom and sleep and let me use this opportunity to warn you not to ever pry your ugly nose into my work affiairs again or else you will live to regret it!”
“Sorry I am only watching your back as a caring wife will do”.
I got up and left the house in anger. I visited Mr Ofori in the house to inform him about my wife’s utterances which suggested that Pastor Derick and the wife are painting a picture which makes me appear bad in front of the church members. Mr. Ofori suggested that we call a meeting and inform the other folks about the leaked sex video of Pastor Derick’s wife and use it to pin him down. I agreed with him.
Two days after, we met at Mr. Ofori’’s house. In attendance were Elder Sosu, Elder Minta, three others and myself who were like minded. Together we all watched the video again and it was obvious none of them was unable to hide their expression of shock and disappointment. Elder Sosu, remarked
“No way, this woman should not be allowed to sit on the podium talk of even standing in front of us to do anything in the church again”
“I have always had this strange feeling about Pastor Derick and the wife that they were not fit to lead us” Elder Minta added.
Mr. Ofori protested “Pastor Sammy, you are the real man of God, something should be done about this issue immediately, we can’t allow Pastor Derick and his prostitute of a wife to desecrate our place of worship”.
I calmed them down and told them what I think should be the way forward. “My people, this is a nice opportunity to break away and start our own church. At the end of the day Pastor Derick is the Bishop and it will be almost impossible to depose him and ask me to become the head pastor but we could convince the members that the Spirit of God will not be in a church where the Pastor’s wife is seen naked having sex in a video.” They supported my suggestion and since one of them was willing to give his land out for us to start our new church they were excited about it. They each received the video via WhatsApp and the agenda was to share it with influential people and other members of the Church Leaders ‘council.
