REFLECTION
“A throne in the heavens” is the theme for our reflection. A throne is the ceremonial chair of a sovereign which represents his or her power. Heaven is regarded as the abode of God. A throne in the heavens means God’s power or sovereignty is established in the heavens. Comparatively, no human throne is established forever, the throne expires with the death of a king or queen, and then a new throne is established at the installation of a new king or queen.
Dear friend, we serve an almighty God whose throne never ends because He lives forever and ever. God’s throne gives us the confidence that we are not alone on earth, we have a King who watches over His subjects and hears their prayer and grants them their needs. Beloved in the Lord, if we have a living God whose throne is established in Heaven then we must humble ourselves at all times before His throne, do His will and serve Him during our short stay on earth and continue to serve Him in the life to come, It is for this reason, the Psalmist employs all to “Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the LORD, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the LORD, my soul.” (Psalms 103:20-22) In other words, our purpose as creations of God is to worship Him before His throne by obeying His Word, doing His will and submitting to His dominion over our lives. Nehemiah also acknowledged the sovereignty of the Lord and gave us every reason to humble ourselves before the throne of God and worship Him when he said that “Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.” (Nehemiah 9:5-6) The Lent season offers us another opportunity to examine our humility and life of worship before the throne of God. Let us totally surrender our lives in doing His will and obeying His Word so that we shall continue to experience His dominion over our lives. Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, enable us to acknowledge the dominion of God over our lives, especially, in times of abundance and help us to remain humble before His everlasting throne. Amen.
