REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “A golden proposal.” A golden proposal describes the meeting between Abraham’s servant and Rebekah at a well in Nahor, which leads to her becoming the wife of Abraham’s son, Isaac. We shall reflect on the fact that a lady with a golden heart deserves a golden proposal.
Beloved in the Lord, since proposals in most cultures are done by the man, it is prudent to mention that every man wants to marry a woman with a golden heart. “Golden heart” is an idiom for someone who is exceptionally kind, compassionate, and generous. Eliazer, the chief servant of Abraham, was sent on a special mission to find a wife for Isaac among the kinsmen of Abraham. He first prayed for a lady with a golden heart (Genesis 24:12-14). We are told, “Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel, son of Milkah, who was the wife of Abraham’s brother Nahor…She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again. 17 The servant hurried to meet her and said, “Please give me a little water from your jar.”18 “Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink. 19 After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink.” 20 So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. (Genesis 24:15-20). Indeed, Eliezer’s prayer had been answered; God brought him a lady who was exceptionally kind, compassionate, and generous. A lady who met the exact qualities he prayed for. Don’t start anything without prayer. Prayer opens doors when we commit our ways to the Lord. Don’t just go looking for a partner to marry, make it a prayer project even as you search. Truly, “He who finds a wife finds what is good
and receives favor from the LORD.” (Proverbs 18:22) We are told, “Without saying a word, the man (Eliazer) watched her closely to learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey successful. 22 When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels. (Genesis 24:21-22) Rebecca’s golden heart and exceptional character were honoured with golden ornaments. The marriage proposal had been initiated through the presentation of golden ornaments and gifts. Beloved in the Lord, may your golden heart bring upon you God’s favour.
My dear ladies, academic credentials, body enhancement and physical beauty may attract a man, but a golden heart and a noble character certainly invite a golden proposal for a long-lasting marital union from a responsible man. Be the golden heart that a responsible man is looking for today. It is for this reason that Proverbs 31:10 tells us that “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. A man’s greatest joy and desire is to marry a woman with a golden heart and a noble character. Rebecca had a golden heart and a noble character, and as a result, she was found worthy of golden ornaments and a proposal. More importantly, she was chosen and became the wife of the second patriarch in Biblical History, Isaac. In other words, Rebecca became part of God’s chosen nation. Married women are also expected to have a golden heart and noble character in their marriages, such that anyone who enters their home will leave with beautiful and unforgettable memories of love and affection. It also important to mention with the equal force that wives also need husbands with golden hearts to complement their golden hearts. When two golden hearts meet, marriage becomes enjoyable and not enduring. It becomes peaceful, not chaotic and regrettable.
In summary, we have discovered that a lady with a golden heart deserves a golden proposal. Shalom.
PRAYER
May the Lord bless responsible and godly men with godly wives with golden hearts and vice versa. Amen.
