REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is, the Tabithas in our midst. Who was Tabitha? We are told by Luke the historian that “… there was in Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas. She was full of good works and acts of charity. (Acts 9:36). Her good works and acts of charity were clearly seen when she died, “All the widows stood beside him(Peter) weeping and showing tunics and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. (Acts 9:39)
Dear friend, the worth of a person’s life is not measured by its longevity, it is measured by its impactfulness. It took one person to make a huge difference and impact on the lives of widows through good works and acts of charity. In a world where little is being done about the plight of the poor and vulnerable in our societies, we are called to brighten the corner by being the Tabithas in the midst of the poor and vulnerable. Tabitha was a disciple who bore the perfect image of Christ and followed His examples. We must represent Christ everywhere we find ourselves as His disciples. We must live and demonstrate the proclamation made by Jesus from the book of Isaiah in Luke 4:18-19, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” Remember, you represent hope to the hopeless and a Tabitha in the midst of the poor and vulnerable. Our good works and acts of charity can make the world a better place. Jesus assures us that “…Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40) There is always someone in your family, vicinity or community looking up to you for help, you may be the Tabitha to his or her problems. May the Lord strengthen us to live an impactful life as His true disciples. Amen.
PRAYER
Almighty God, let the heart of Jesus be in us and bless us with resources to live an impactful life in our generation. Amen.
